Cardinals, also known as red birds or Virginia nightingales, are one of the favorite backyard birds in North American because they frequently visit backyards with feeders and bird houses. In the entire U.S., the cardinal is considered the only red bird with a crest. Banding studies have shown that cardinals can live in the wild up to 15 years.
