About the Contest:
Shaker Square is a historic and beautiful neighborhood and shopping center where people live, work, and play. There is a vibrancy to Shaker Square that comes from the history, the architecture, and the people who make up the community.
The Shaker Square Popcorn Shop, Lake Erie Artists Gallery, and Dewey’s Coffee Cafe have decided to cooperate to present a new art contest to promote the special qualities of Shaker Square.
The goal of the contest is to find one or more pieces of art that show off Shaker Square in a way that will capture the essence of our beloved community.
Contest Rules:

Any flat medium will do--acrylic, water, oil, photography, etching, etc. It does need to be able to be reproduced in poster form. Must be presented in any size proportional to an 8 x 10 format. If you would like to have your piece displayed, it must also be ready to hang.

Submissions will be accepted from March 1, 2011 to July 1, 2011 at The Shaker Square Popcorn Shop or Lake Erie Artists Gallery.

Judging will be coordinated by both shops and the winner will be announced July 31, 2011.

A cash prize of $350.00 will be awarded to the winner and $150.00 to the runner up.

Contest entries will be displayed in both retail stores and possibly other restaurants and shops at Shaker Square.

All rights to the winning artwork will belong to the Shaker Square Popcorn Shop & Lake Erie Artists Gallery.

The artwork belonging to the remainder of the entrants can be picked up by their owners after July 31, 2011.

Essence of Shaker Square Contest Winners
We have announced the contest winners for the Essence of Shaker Square Art Contest for 2011.
First Prize of $350.00 goes to Betty Lau for the watercolor painting above. The judges thought that this picture really showed the Essence of Shaker Square. The picture shows people gathered at tables outside of Dewey's enjoying the beautiful day. This is a great presentation of the Essence of Shaker Square. The artist included the landscaping, the architecture, and the community which is what Shaker Square is all about.
Second Prize of $150.00 goes to Ralph Solonitz for the picture below:
Artists will be called to pick up their winnings the week of September 12.
